Try power cycling everything. Turn off all the power in the room and start it all back up piece by piece allowing things to get upto speed before starting on the next device.
    For example:
    1. Turn on your UPS, wait 3 minutes,
    2. Turn on your drives, wait 3 minutes,
    3. Turn on the digibeta deck wait 3 minutes (yes it does actually help to have the deck up and running b4 your card believe it or not)
    4. Turn on your computer (which should also be feeding the power for the kona.

That should help, I’ve never had that problem with my Kona computers, but it happens all the time with my BlackMagic computers, so it’s worth giving a try.

    Hope that helped!

When you have finished an entire “reel” (card) there’s a little eject button at the upper left hand side of the import window which will clear out all clips (whether rendered or not) that are associated with that reel from the import dialogue window.
    Hope that helped!

You are correct, sorry I’m an editor not a cameraman.
I just love the P2 workflow.

Has the HVX always been able to shoot 1080 or is that a newer feature on these latest cameras. Our shop got them when they first came out not last July but the year before that and I’ve always gotten 720p footage from my boss. Did he waste 15k on the HPX?

    lol, thanks for correcting me,

Why go HVX when you could go HPX? You get the same DVCProHD codec but at 1080p instead of 720.

But I will agree with you on the HDV codec being the absolute worst thing in the world to work with. When it first came out I had computers crashing just trying to render cross disolves with that crap, I won’t even work with HDV anymore, blah.

You can change deck settings to record 23.98, and if ever given the option to go firewire or SDI always always always go SDI.

If you capture again via firewire you will have to capture 59.94, sorry. But you won’t have that problem if you capture via SDI.

    Hope that helps!

We’ve used the P2 workflow since the day the HVXs came out, we loved it so much that we also bumped up to the HPX500 to be able to shoot 1080p footage dirt cheap. We’re now finishing the deliverables on our second feature using the HPX and if you’re comfortable with a tapeless workflow (although i do strongly recommend backing up your mxf data in 2 other locations off-site) I’d say that’s the way to go.

The HPX also outputs very nicely to Sony HDCam tapes for a nice upres to 8 or 10 bit uncompressed 🙂

Whenever i need to control the timecode on print to video I manually set it on the deck (plus 3 seconds for preroll). We have a Sony HDV/MiniDV/DVCAM deck and under the menu settings there’s a section called TC/UB settings which allows you to preset your timecode which you can get frame accurate TC outputs on your tape.

We use this method a fair amount for creating Offline tapes for clients when we shoot film or HD and they want to edit at home or cross convert to BetaSP or digiBeta.

    Hope this helped!

no shake works fine with it, I was out of it when i wrote that, I saw shake but for some reason was thinking scratch. The color program scratch prefers NVIDIA Quadro, but scratch systems are only for PCs.

If you want to do anything Mac related I strongly suggest the ATI.
    Sorry for the confusion.
