    for me that had been the case; today for whatever reason ive noticed regardless of where i click it just lists total duration and project settings; any thoughts or should i try to start trashing preferences and the like?

    To online now with red; I would recommend downloading clipfinder and following their whitepaper.

    In a nutshell you:

    1. export an xml of your timeline (I would recommend baking out the other multiclips angles if you are truly locked thru media manager first),
    2. Run a conform on that xml tile thru clipfinder which you will point to locate your R3D’s. If the timebase, timecode, and filenames are all the same it will replace your existing media with the R3D files, conform to the sequence settings you want, and spit out a new XML file.
    3. Import this new XML file into FCP, you now should have a frame accurate timeline of your original, but now with your raw files
    4. Send this new timeline to color and enjoy grading with a full debayer off of camera raw files!

    Quick note, Color reading R3D is very processor and RAM intensive; to avoid crashing color I would recommend limiting the sequences you send there to roughly 5 minutes and def no more than 200 cuts. We’ve found that since we usually have to break out reals in 10 minute chuncks to send to audio we just divide that in half and color a real 1A and 1 B and so on.

    Also looks like some sort of timecode thing going on; monitoring from my timeline it reads the file as DF and timecode matches timeline timecode perfectlly; then i write to tape which is also setup as DF; but monitoring off of there the decoder is reading the timecode data as still DF but is a little off; kinda hard to tell since TC data goes away in the decoder if you don’t have an active stream, don’t know if it’s the delay processing from the tape; also getting pure silence now.

    I switched to an sd ref from blackburst and that worked for a 30 seconds spot that we were doing; now today I’m trying to lay off the full feature and am again getting stuttering, even with the same settings as when we did the promo; makes me want to pull my hair out.

    ***UPDATE***

    Found a way to wire the deck thru the system so the decoder could read the tape directly w/o re-capture and it’s def not getting onto the tape correctly; any pointers at this point would be greatly appreciated.

    I have; you’re gonna want to batch all your footage to a real codec; go ahead and use redrushes since i’m guessing you don’t have a redrocket; set a small frame size (your instinct for dv would work) and compressor (low end prores is perfect) if you want to do an offline/online edit; or just go ahead and use proresHQ or higher at full size if you want to cut/color online; either way maintain your frame rate; once that batch is done relink your existing edit to your new files and all your syncing work you’ve already done should be fine so long as you don’t change any timecode data.

    Or if it’s REALLLY visible and reframing destroys the shot, have somebody roto it; reshooting is hardly ever an option for people!
