Thank you, Nate. We broke down and opened the manual! …and realized the deck downconverts when you go out composite or firewire. So we made a beautiful 4X3 dub with letterbox at the top and bottom with firewire. Picture’s perfect and didn’t cut anything off. Thank you.

Bobby, You might be able to answer this question for me. We shoot XDCAM, then edit it HD on Final Cut. We master/archive to the PDW-F70 deck through an AJA Kona box.

Is there a way to make a standard def DVD from the PDW-F70? I want the picture to be 16X9 with letterboxing on the top and bottom. I don’t want to stretch the picture nor cut anything off.

    Thank you.

Chi-Ho, Thank you so much for your prompt response. Yes, I mean a program with effects. Is there anything I can do to make the render time faster?

Thank you so much for your quick response.

“What kind of rendering do you do? Effects? Downconversion to SD? Colorcorrection? Something else?”

Effects: Not too much. Dissolves, slo-mo, B&W, a few more effects but generally it’s clean video and audio.

Downconversion to SD: Mastering back to the PDW-F70 XDCAM deck. This is what takes all the rendering time.

    Color Correction: minimal

Thanks so much, Floh. I’ll try it. I’m also going to try swapping the junction box with another suite to rule out the junction box.

This sounds familiar. I had this problem a while back. I believe that Media 100 addresses this on their site. Perhaps do a search in these message boards for the error notice, “cannot play because…”. Good luck.

Thanks so much Todd. Yes, it is a Medea and it’s starting to come back to me. I think that the last time or two I got this message it was a precursor to the drive going down and needing to be reformatted.

We have quick time on this suite but we don’t use it for anything. Still, should we make sure it’s the latest version and if yes, why do you suggest that? Thanks again.

The specific error message is, “Could not play because the media was recorded with a newer version of Media 100i.”
