David, I know the 2/3″ chips are better. I guess this cam is more of a cousin to the dsr-500 rather than the dsr-300. But even the 500 does 16:9 and this one doesn’t.

What do you mean standard 4:3 will be around for a long time? Isn’t everyone moving to 16:9 and aren’t the tv stations required to switch over within the next year or two? Last year, I went to DV Magazine’s trade show in Los Angeles and at the Sony booth a fellow said to me that all of the DSR cams will soon be discontinued. That’s why I’m surprised to see this camera introduced.

What is this? Are they really still introducing DVCAM products? Isn’t this the year that everything moves over to HDV and HD? Can someone explain why they’re introducing this camera? It seems odd too that it supports 2/3″ lenses when the DSR series of cameras has always supported 1/2″.

  • We definitely didn’t explore the new video tracks. We’ll have to check them out.

I guess what I was hoping to find was more real-time transitions and a better improvement on Boris render time. Again, we found it a little faster but nothing astonishing.

One question no one seemed to touch on is will it be possible to do simultaneous DVCAM and VHS dubs without the traditional breakout box? I suppose we could try doing a passthrough from the DVCAM deck to the VHS decks. Has anyone tried this?

    Thanks again for everyone’s input!

Floh, There are three catagories in the Project Settings: Video, Effects and Graphics. Should all three catagories be in HDR? I also have the lossless option. Thanks so much.

What does HDR stand for? This is a setting that we’ve never used before. We’ve been able to do this before on the “natural setting.”

Is this different from the Media 100HD codec we’re able to download from their site? If yes, can you explain the difference. Thanks.
