Media 100 will be giving away CDs with a free beta version of the upcoming Media 100 software only version at NAB.
    From their announcment:

    “Media 100 sw comprises:
    – A full-functioning editing application, with the familiar Media 100 interface
    – Edit SD and HD material
    – Full support for all Media 100 codecs
    – Real-time effects, depending on processor and drive speeds
    – Full media and graphics import and export capabilities
    – Trial version of Boris Graffiti
    – Moving programs backward and forward to Media 100 HD

Media 100 sw will also be able to open any program created on Media 100i, export material as a QuickTime movie or output via a Media 100i system to tape. All existing import and export workflows, including sending to third party compressors for MPEG2 for DVD or MPEG4 for web, will continue to work as they do with the current shipping Media 100 product”

Basically this means you can use the system as a true second Media 100 HD system (without video I/O), e.g. on a PowerBook on the road, and you can use it with a Media 100 i system to get the advantages of Media 100 HD without buying the new hardware. And everybody who is interested in HD can get used to the new features and speed for free. So if you are going to attend NAB I only can recommend stopping at the Optibase booth and getting a free copy of the Media 100 HD software only version.

Is this different from the Media 100HD codec we’re able to download from their site? If yes, can you explain the difference. Thanks.

Yes, this is a full BETA version of Media 100 HD editing software (from what I understand).

You will be able to put this on any Mac (that can handle it) and edit. I would assume you could hook a firewire drive with a media folder on it and just edit away.

You are right. It will have all the features of HD, except the hardware support.

Does anyone know if there’s any chance to get the free Media 100 sw anywhere else if you’re unable to go to NAB this year? I usually go but am unable to this year.

No not online yet joran, i believ its still in final beta testing and will be made golden master and sent to cd duplicator just before NAB. I’m sure Steve B will post that update when it happens but from what i hear the software is very impressive. albeit not 844 but…….
