From Vegas 9, this has become very easy in Vegas.
Here is a tutorial how to do it with the Spicemaster plugin:

You can find the pre/ost toggle button on the left side of the timeline which is present in the FX window. This button determines in which order the effect is applied.

Does that mean that Blue is also going to support more videocards? I tried the trial for Blue sometime ago and I got the message that it could not work with my videocard (Geforce GT240M).

Vegas is a mutithread application, but not all plugins are. So maybe you used a plugin that does not allow multithread rendering.

Open the track FX on an audio track. Remove all audio FX (or change to whatever you like).
Close the audio FX window
Right-click on a empty space in the track header of the audio track and select SET DEFAULT TRACK PROPERTIES.Theo

To see the transparancy of the event with the Lagarith codec, just add the event to the time line and right-click on the event. Selecting the PROPERTIES option allows you to select the right transparancy setting for this event
