That is quite the gotcha – 8 years later and it hasn’t changed. Ugh.

I just ran into this issue as well; why can’t you just scale the image inside the mask when you have the mask applied? I.e., scaling the image also scales the mask, which is not what I want.

Since the pan behind tool works to move the image within the mask, why isn’t there an easier solution to scaling within the mask besides making pre-comps?

    thanks!

Hi Peter, the only thing I didn’t try (as you suggested) was to make the Illustrator file into compound paths — same result. I did save it as an Illustrator 8 file, there’s no bounding box and no crazy Pantone colors. Any other suggestions?

Holy Cow! I’ve been using AE for years now and never thought to use this command; I’ve got 100 comps that I have to replace photos in and it’s gone from a 3-4 day project to a one day project.

Thanks Dave & Bartek! And thanks for asking the question Eric. I feel like a big idiot for not knowing this sooner…

Are there any tutorials on importing Maya projects into AE? Wasn’t sure how many steps/how difficult of a task it is…

    thanks!

btw, this also solves the problem for Keylight using AE CS3 on a dual processor. Thanks for the fix, Tim. This was driving me crazy.

Great, thank you Richard! I do use bridge for previews and applying presets, but didn’t know it could do that too. I probably should investigate more into what it’s capable of.

I’d rather apply a text preset to one text layer, not two separate layers.

No big deal; the anchor point shift works, as would making two separate layers. I just thought I might have been missing something obvious.

    thanks,

Dave, I’ll try to clarify —

say that I don’t have any space at all between two lines (that’s how I want it) so that the text is sitting right on top of each other. How do I make it so that line one is in front of line two? Line two defaults as the ‘top’ layer, just wanted to see if it was easily changed so that line one could be the ‘top’ layer.

    Does that make sense?
