Then I am guessing that you have an improper connection from the AJA to your monitor amp, or the monitor amp is in the wrong “input” (is the “Tape Monitor” button pushed?

Try this, find a way to connect some headphones (plug adapters) directly to the audio output of the AJA (it will be very LOW LEVEL) and see if any audio is getting out of the AJA.

Yes, I agree.

On a UVW-1800, (if your playback source is not “locked to house sync”) you must MANUALLY re-plug and “loop” the incoming video THROUGH the “Ref. Video” input first, and then into the regular “Video” input. (Careful of the 75-ohm terminations.)

If you don’t, the “un-synced” input timing will cause the image to “roll down” on the monitor during the recording.
But it should look fine on PLAYBACK of that tape.

(Make a quick test recording to make sure.)

Have you set the “Sound” in the Mac’s “System Preferences” to the K-box?

FCP “native” titlers (yech!) can only use TrueType (Type 2) fonts.

But “Title 3D” (included on FCP install discs, and SHOULD be avalilable as a “Generator” choice in FCP) can use both Type 1 and Type 2 fonts.

ANY dv camcorder (even home video).

Try connecting the Panny to the other camcorder directly and see if its image shows up.

Its actually a very simple procedure, if the recording is in stereo with mono vocals.

Does it WORK?

Not very well.

Due to copyright rules, I won’t describe how its done, but its a process that shouldn’t phase anyone with basic audio knowledge.

There is a function in FCP that is often overlooked… and it can help with many audio and video “skipping”, “sticking” and “missing” problems.

You should “Mixdown” the Audio for playback before you dub out of FCP, or during the edit, if you have audio/video stuttering, drop-outs, sync-slippage, or freezes.

NOTE: Mixdown has even been demonstrated to help with slipping, skipping problems (or “missing” audio clips) for files being EXPORTED as QT (or similar) files out of FCP.

First, SELECT ALL of your audio tracks (highlight them) on the timeline, then:

Sequence Menu > Render Only > Mixdown.

You should see a dialog box telling you its rendering.

It might seem to make little sense that “Mixing down” even simple audio tracks will “fix” complex video “freezes” or random audio dropouts to tape or export, but it CAN.

NOTE: It does not matter of you only have one audio track, if there are random freezes during output, you should try the Mixdown.
