The restriction is that you can not have more than one “video device” (like a camcorder AND a deck) connected at the same time to one Mac.
A FW HD is not a “video device.”
There are thousands of folks using external FW drives and capturing video to them.BTW, if the G5 has a FW and a FW800 port, they are different buses.

But the benefit of shooting to DV is that it will already have Timecode, will be easier to capture, and can be stored with the other master tapes for future reference.

Create the images with their dissolves and make that a separate nest.

Do you have one of those modified UVW 1800’s with the AFM electronics strapped to the top of the deck?
Otherwise, how do you use AFM (ch. 3&4) audio with an 1800?

You need to adjust the speed of your clips BEFORE they are edited to the timeline.
But you can solve this problem afterwards by adjusting the matching “original” clip(s), then editing these newly adjusted clips to replace the one(s) on your timeline.On the timeline: Put the cursor on the FIRST FRAME of the clip you want to Slo-Mo or Fast-Mo.
But do NOT double-click IT into the viewer, but hit CMD-OPT-F (Match Frame to Source File) … this loads a ‘temporary’ copy of the real “original” so a “match-frame” appears in the Viewer.Then, adjust the speed of the clip in the Viewer (Cmd-J) to any percent you want.
Next, on the timeline, use REPLACE to change-out the regular-speed clip with the newly speed-adjusted version.
Your other clips will all stay in place.

Hmmm….bitter, but still tasty!”There is an hysterically funny on-going “bit” in Disney’s animated film, “The Emperor’s New Groove” where the woman villain (who’s trying to booby-trap our hero) says to her cohort, “PULL the LEVER!!” (at which point a trap door… under where SHE is standing… opens up and she plummets toward the bottom of a pit.)
She, of course says “No! Not THAT Lever!” even as she decends.
Later in the same film, they set up the same scenario… and, sure enough, same result.
But THIS time she says, “NO! Not THAT lever… WHY do we even HAVE that lever?”
Its a gem of a line!
I feel ths same way about the tired, out-of-date, virftually useless FCP “native” titlers.
“No! Not THAT Titler… WHY do we even HAVE that Titler?”

I suggest that you do not use the FCP native title generators… ever! 😉
Insstead, create your titles in “Title 3D” or “Title Crawl” (both from Boris, both included with the FCP install disks.
Also, there are plenty of other 3rd Party Titlers as well as Photoshop… with many options.
