dissolving images in motion

I’m learning both FCP and Motion all while trying to complete a high visibility project on a tight deadline (just shoot me). Found a template that will do just nicely. It has 3 moving windows, text, etc. I’ve read how to place the footage in the windows but I want the images to dissolve within the window. How do I get the images to keep the same parameters and dissolve. Can the clips live on the same track or must a new track be created in the layer? I’m stumped. I posted this in motion forum but got no response. I’m going to sit with the book again and see if I missed something. 😛

Create the images with their dissolves and make that a separate nest.
Put the nest in the “box”.
