Best way to grab some audio
Posted by Kevin C. on August 9, 2006 at 11:36 pmI’m director. If I need to grab some new audio dialogue, should I do it with my GL1 and my audio technica mike on mini DV, or would it come out just as good with my handheld mini disc recorder on MD? thanks

The benefit of using the mini disc recorder is that you will have quicker random access to your sound bites (less time spent searching for gems)

But the benefit of shooting to DV is that it will already have Timecode, will be easier to capture, and can be stored with the other master tapes for future reference.

I would record to the GL1 versus the mini disc.

August 11, 2006 at 12:15 amthanks guys, it’s so much faster to mini disc, than having to set up XLR converter, mike etc, but of course I’d have to convert the MD to CD (anologue maybe) as editors can’t input an MD.
