That sounds like a good way to handle it.

If you change the DURATION of a clip, that’s what’s supposed to happen.
If you want to cut off the length of a clip, you should add a CUT at the spot where you want it to end, then put in a new clip to fill the area that you are cutting off of the old scene.
Or, are you trying to make a SPEED change?

If you slide the cut-point then transition will happen earlier or later than it originally occured.

Maybe you could explain what you hear on the DVD from the TV that you don’t hear from monitoring FCP.

Sounds like a bad IC.
No easy fix, if it is.

Try the “Stobe” filter, set to 1 frame (or 2).

Just output thye Timeline to a “Self Contained QT Moive” and transfer that file to the other Mac.
No need to transfer in “real time.”
