Restoring windows. If Mikes suggestions don’t work (and they should) you can reset the setup to factory defaults by rebooting Vegas with the Ctrl and shift keys depressed. HOWEVER any personalized settings will be lost.
(wondering) Why did you post this twice?

Steve was saying that by placing the effect on the specific event the effect should only affect that event, not the entire track. You can place Fx at different levels. At the event level, at the track level (affects the entire track), at the output level (affects the entire project) and at the project media level (where it will affect that clip whenever you place it on the timeline)

How about letting us know what the fix was in case we need it sometime?

Thanks for the help guys:
John: I disabled the acceleration on the video card -no change. Reenabled it – no change.Graham: I disengaged XP theme support and restarted Vegas and VOILA problem was fixed. I then reenabled XP theme support and restrted Vegas and problem was back.
So I disabled XP theme support and reenabled video card acceleration and it was still fixed.
Thanks for the help: This forum rocks!
BTW I don’t know if XP theme support was enabled or not before I had to change the parts.

Further information:
I uninstalled V8 Pro and reinstalled it and ended up with the same problem. I have it installed on another computer and everything is Ok there. Cannot figure out where (how) it has disappeared. -
There is no way that you can compare trying to save your low resolution VHS tapes (VHS is low resolution to begin with)to what you get when you down load a highly compressed movie from the net. They start at a very high quality and the same amount of compression will not effect them nearly as much. If you compress to a low resolution avi, when you want to put them on dvd you will have to recompress again to MPEG2 which will further degenerate them. IMO this would be unacceptable. Kind of like a third generation vhs copy.

January 2, 2010 at 6:26 am in reply to: Sony vegas 8 pro , How i move clips across the time line?Or you can turn on auto ripple (icon at top of time line)then highlight the empty area and push delete. Space will be gone and rest of track will move over. Remember to turn off the auto ripple after you have made the move.
OR
You can do select all and then drag the first clip over to the left side of the space. The entire timeline will effectively be grouped temporarily and come over with it.

DV.avi is about 13 GB per hour so that sounds about right. And it is actually compressed. DV.avi is about 5:1 compression. Uncompresssed avi would be 5x larger! Any compression you do to the DV.avi is going to affect the quality or resolution but will make for smaller files.

Of course, I believe you need a video card that will support multiple monitors (sheepish smile)

First make sure that you have the Vegas Pro version not a Studio version. I don’t think the Studio version has velocity envelopes.
Then make sure that an event is highlighted. If you don’t highlight (select) an event the velocity envelope is greyed out.
