DVD’s are not HD.

That should be good for compressed 4K stuff. If you’re working with uncompressed 4K you’ll need storage that can read at least ~1,5 GB/S.

I watched those clips side by side on my HP Dreamcolor display and I’m not noticing any huge color differences here. There will be some minor changes when you are transcoding between formats.

There is a difference between square pixels and non-square pixels. Either you scale to fill and lose a little or you’ll have to deal with the bars.

Well they could use a flash drive that doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. Flash memory has limited read/write cycles and if you are continuously using the drive/stick/whatever it will start losing data and getting errors. Also they are ssssllllooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww.
A better (but a bit more expensive) alternative would be a small external USB 3 drive that takes its power from the usb port.

VHS tapes are pretty much worse than DVD’s. You are just throwing away time and money if you’re making blurays out of them when DVD’s are pretty much the best, similarly specced format for standard definition stuff.

You could also accomplish this with a shape layer.

Why didn’t you online your edit in Scratch? Then you could do your final export from there.
