Got a new macpro, i have not been able to do any test on whether or not a Promise Raid R4 that averages about 400-500MB/s is fast enough to edit 4k footage in real time(plugged via TB). So far storage has been my main bottleneck. From what i understand, proresHQ 4k is about 880Mb/s(which would average to 110MBytes/s – so technically i should be good via the Promise R4? Using Premiere pro BTW.

    thanks

Frank, I’m testing a new mac pro with a 12TB Promise Pegasus2 R6 raid 5 drive currently with Sony F55 and Red footage. We are doing a 4 camera multi cam and its playing back pretty well. Current Premiere CC build 7.2.2.

Thanks! I have a 4tb r4 which is about 1/3 of your storage/raid speed but only 1 4k proresHQ going so i should be fine!

That should be good for compressed 4K stuff. If you’re working with uncompressed 4K you’ll need storage that can read at least ~1,5 GB/S.

Get a raid with 6 or more drives to up the throughput speed.
