9800 will, when you add audio, be too high for many DVD players.

Can you just master DVD-9 (dual layer) where DVD-A should not re-encode, don’t burn a disk, just master to a folder. If that master is smaller than the size of a regular DVD, burn to DVD using NERO or even DVD-A by using “Burn a previously prepared folder”?

You don’t need to find a “decent” singer, if you can manage it, download the lyrics etc, and record the lyrics your self on a new track. Do the lip synch to your voice. You can remove your voice from the final production if you are able to lip synch close enough to the original song.
Now the lip synch software is synched to your voice, but is playing to the original song. Should work fine since the quality of your voice won’t matter all that much when it comes to the technical part of doing the actual lip synch.

Don’t worry, you got lucky. Vista at the current time is a pain in the neck for most people. Beta until January.

Forget about Vista, it is a pain in the you know where for most people. In reality Vista is beta software, as is most Microsoft software on release. Wait until SP1 comes out in early 2008. Stay with XP for now.
In reality there is no compelling, or not so compelling reason to upgrade to Vista. It doesn’t give you anything at all of value, and it is a huge pain for a lot of people. Why would you upgrade to something that gives you nothing at all, but causes a lot of grief in most cases?

On my PC, XP SP2, V8 seems to render MPEG-2 at about the same speed as V7. Tried the render test, haven’t tested any of my footage, but I do not see a noticeable slowdown.

I think the answer is going to be a definite “no” until we get to Vista SP1. I’d recommend staying away from Vista until then.

Well, I will have to completely disagree with you here. Upgrading from Vista to XP will probably fix all of his problems, whether they are created by Vista or by the fact that vendors have been slow to release drivers for Vista. His printer will most likely work very well in XP, and his capture will most likely work very well in XP.
Am I “blaming” Vista for his problems? Yes and no (more below), but more importantly, I am giving him a very easy fix that will in fact solve all of his problems. Upgrade from Vista to XP. Simple. Effective. Good on any level imaginable.
Now, is this a Vista problem or is it a vendor problem? Well, it is a Vista problem. For reasons unknown to everybody except Microsoft, the driver model was drastically changed in Vista, making most legacy drivers incompatible. This was not the case for the 2000 to XP upgrade for example. So, yes, that is Vistas “fault”. Is it the vendors fault. Perhaps. If the vendors doesn’t see a customer base on Vista, they have no incentive to fix their drivers, so why should they?
The reality of the matter is that Vista was probably released 12-18 months too early. The level of testing that went into Vista wasn’t sufficient, and too many problems surfaced almost immediately. A lot of these will be fixed in SP1.
