[Bob Zelin] “With that said, the AVID Adrenaline is a fantastic editing system, as is the AVID Symphony/Nitris”
Bob is right. And I’m going to miss my Symphony when the world goes FCP and Premiere. But it is happening whether we like it or not. Avid management screwed the pooch.

Or better yet, use Avid FX (boris FX) which came free with your system if it’s newer or Moving Picture (www.stagetools.com).
Pan & Zoom will cause problems if your picture is too large, and it doesn’t allow you to rotate your picture.

Are you muckraking here? This is like asking whether a Mac or PC is better, you are guaranteed to get a fight.
They each have strengths and weaknesses and which is best depends upon your workflow.

In SD, there is only 4X3. To have 16X9, you need to either have it squeezed anamorphically (which you have) or letterboxed. Since you already have an anamorphic image, you could output to tape that way and the end user can letterbox it. If you go to DVD, you can do the same thing adding a 16X9 anamorrphic flag which tells the DVD player to either letterbox it, or cut the center out depending upon viewer preference.
So the question is, why do you want to letterbox it? You will lower the quality by reducing vertical resolution. If that is what you want, then you can simply add the 16X9 letterbox effect which you will find under the “reformat” heading in the effects menu. If you happen to be on an ancient Avid that doesn’t have this, just drop a resize on there and set the vertical to 75.

> Bob,
As you know, I’ve owned Kona products for years. I’ve jut been an occasional lurker in the past. As we are now nearly 50 percent FCP vs. Avid, you will be seeing more of me here. :-p

<<1080 25 works fine, 1080 30 does not.>>

The major thing that Avid still has over FCP is media management. Because of the architecture of FCP, I don’t think that will ever change. That hasn’t kept Avid from killing themselves though.

Haven’t actually converted between DNxHD and uncompressed so I can’t say. What’s wrong wiht the traditional offline / online workflow. 4 tsreams of DNxHD 36 should be easy to handle and it looks really good.
