Lots of great advice so far. Let me add, if you can avoid it, NEVER lease. That is an area that is rife with unethical companies. The credit line is a much better idea. And get the max sized credit line you can. You don’t have to use it, but there may times when it will save your bacon.
Also, there are rent vs. buy calculators out there that can help you decide when it is time to buy.

That all depends upon how you get there. If you use HDMI, copy protection will kick in.
You might be able to use something like Blackmagic’s HDMI to SDI converter. I don’t know if they actually built in the copy protection stuff or not.
Then you need a Mojo DX or Nitris to capture the HD.
You might be better off finding some program to rip the BluRay just like a DVD (if that exists yet), and then import the movie file.
I’ll be watching this thread for sure as we are all going to probably have to deal with this at some point.

Is the MXO2 working with MC at all? I know the original MXO did, but I haven’t heard of the MXO2 doing it yet.

There is no such thing as an HD or SD Avid anymore as the software is capable of both. External hardware (I/O boxes) can be HD or SD. Mojo was SD, Adrenaline could be brought up to HD with an extra board. The newer DX stuff is all HD capable.
As for your strobing issue. Since it is happening on exported files, my guess would be wrong field order. If you have different codecs in your timeline, they could have different field order which will become a problem on export.

Sounds to me like the audio files were imported as OMF. Does drive “A” have an omfi folder that didn’t get copied to drive “B”?

You will have to import the QT as has been mentioned.
As for the state of Avid, Yes they charge for customer support, but that is because they provide. Apple doesn’t really support FCP in a professional way.
Yes they have been arrogant and it cost them a huge market share, but they are under new management and things have been changing for the better for years now.
Finally, most camera owners don’t have an expensive piece of pro gear like your Canon 5D. If you Google cameras the 5D will be way down the list. I would bet most schools don’t have them either. Most students won’t be using a 5D unless they have rich parents. Does that mean the 5D is doomed?
