Problems with cloned drives and ghost files
Hi!
I’m doing assistant editing on a project, working with the editor over the Internet, by sending bins back and forth. At the start of the project the editor cloned his media drive (drive A) and sent the clone to me (drive B).
All the audio is seperate from the video (syncing these clips is one of my assignments). The audio is imported wavs (to MXF) and the video is imported Quicktimes (to MXF).
Now, the problem is that half of the material is offline on drive B, but online on drive A. This goes only for video. All of the audio is online on both drives. We really can’t get our heads around this but here’s what we have done:
1) We have compared our MXF-folders and they are exactly the same. When I try to Reveal the offline files on drive B, nothing happens. And here’s the mysterious thing: when trying to Reveal the same files on drive A (since I originally thought that the MXF files on the editors computer had been imported somewhere else), nothing happens, although they are clearly online in the Avid project.
2) When unmounting drive A from the editors computer, the files become offline. This leads to the conclusion that they must exist on drive A but can’t be seen (or revealed
3) In the bin / text-view the ghost files (on both systems) show “Avid Offline (E:)” or “Avid Offline G:” under the heading “Drive”. All other files show “Avid Offline”, which is the name of drive A and B. They are still online on the editors system though. And he does not have either a drive “E:” och “G:” connected to his system.
4) We have also found out that on the editors system, drive A lacks both database files and the Creating-folder. On my drive (B) these exists, although I cant say if these were generated by my Avid when I first connected the drive. I have however tried deleting them and generating them again, with no change.
Hope this is fairly intelligable, and If someone has even the slightest idea of a solution, please help 🙂 We’re going nuts over this!

Sounds to me like the audio files were imported as OMF. Does drive “A” have an omfi folder that didn’t get copied to drive “B”?
