I actually know how to do it in BCC as I end up using that more.

Under the “format” pulldown in the project window, you select the current “mode”. If you are working in an HD project, and you need to capture an SD clip, you go to that pulldown and change to SD. Capture your clip and return to HD mode. When you cut that clip in the timeline it will fill the HD raster side to side which means you will have to drop a reformat effect on to get the aspect ratio proper.
If you are on a Symphony, that is all you need to do. If you are on Adrenaline, you ned to transcode your timeline to DNxHD before you can output.

From the manual:
The Focus button allows you to zoom in on a section of the Timeline. It is located in the
Timeline toolbar next to the Timeline Fast Menu button.
The Focus button allows you to center the position indicator quickly and expand the
Timeline. The Focus button always expands the Timeline to a scale of 90 pixels per second.
The position indicator is centered in the window. When you click the Focus button again, the
Timeline returns to its previous size.Navigating in the Timeline
To focus the Timeline:
1. Move the position indicator to the frame or transition you want to expand.
2. Click the Focus button.
The region of the Timeline immediately surrounding the position indicator is centered
and enlarged.

So you ALWAYS tell a potential client that you haven’t done something in the past, even if they don’t ask. Even if you know you can do it, but haven’t done it yet?

Export the QT movie as a reference from FCP (Not Self Contained) then use compressor to resize it to 720 x 486. Use the target resolution in Avid as the codec. For example, 1:2, 2:1, etc. If you don’t have the Avid codecs on your FCP computer, download them from Avid and install them.
Then import that into Avid.
Why are you deinterlacing it? You don’t need to.

That’s a far stretch from from where I was at. I had been working with film in various formats since i was 12.

You are jumping to an extreme. If the doctor said he had “done it a thousand times”, he would be blatantly lying. If he said he was “familiar with heart surgery”, and in reality you were actually his first living heart patient, he wouldn’t be lying. Doctors have to work on a lot of cadavers before they touch a living one. And every doctor has his “first” patient for any particular operation. I tend to doubt they all say “you are my first” each time that happens.
