Yes, it’s unbelievable there’s no way to tell clip is anamorphic in FCPX. I guess it has something to do that all the filmstrip pics should be rendered once again after that. But so what. I also tried some scripts that change the quicktime aspect ratio but it seems that FCPX is not reading that. So if some developer sees this who knows what is the anamorphic tag FCPX reads I’d easily donate some money if someone could create simple script that changes SD clips tag to anamorphic.

Great! I’m little bit disappointed that still in/out points are not remembered. And there’s no way to tell my SD clips are anamorphic. Pretty basic things. Anyway roles are really big thing.
– One thing that seems to be working now are hold frames and speed changes. Hurray!

Well the cheapest way at the moment to get Prores component is to buy Motion 5 (49$). Also if you’ve Final Cut Studio (or FCPX/Motion5/Compressor4) already on some workstation it should work that you simply copy Prores component from Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime to same folder in other computer. Maybe it’s illegal. No idea. I think Apple doesn’t care. As long as people have to buy Macs to encode Prores 🙂

I have experience with different MacPros and AJA Konas and can say that Premiere Pro is still very buggy and laggy with AJA Konas. And from what I’ve read it seems that also Blackmagic’s and Matrox’s cards / output boxes are unstable and buggy. That’s why we decided to stay with Final Cut Pro 7 for a while and see which one (Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro X) gets working external output sooner.
I like Premiere Pro and especially Dynamic Link but for me it seems that there must be something essential broken in Premiere Pros ‘engine’ because it’s one and a half year since CS5 launch and there’s no really well working output solution available. Or correct me if I’m wrong? And people who’ve been working with FCP and AJA Konas know what I mean by really well working solution. Also what the h__l is this thing in Premiere Pro that I’ve to choose ‘different player’ for source monitor?!#

Hmm. After Final Cut Pro X I’ve noticed that Prores and H.264 are displayed with more contrast system wide (in Quicktime Player 10 etc.). But that’s because now it uses colorsync so it should be much more accurate. I work in broadcast and can say that colors in my calibrated Cinema Display are very close to Broadcast monitor.
But I really can’t say why your H.264 looks different on Quicktime Player 10 than in Final Cut Pro X. Do you have some additional codecs installed (such as Perian) which Quicktime Player might use instead of Apple’s own decoder. You should try with some other system.
If you haven’t faced some serious bug (or haven’t calibrated your monitor to some non-standard settings – It should be 6500K, gamma 2,2) I’d say the colors you see in Final Cut Pro X are accurate representation of your H.264.

If you look your video with Quicktime Player X it should look exactly same than in Final Cut Pro X. Anyway have you calibrated your monitor? I read somewhere that Final Cut Pro X has problems with profiles generated by some programs.

I haven’t done extensive testing but can say straight that Neatvideo is superior to remove grain filter. Absolutely one of the best plugins everyone should own. BTW there’s no notable difference whether you apply Neatvideo before/after CC. I generally apply it after so it doesn’t slow down my workflow.

We have MacPros with many different AJA Konas and we tried to make switch but at the moment AJA output is so buggy and laggy in Premiere Pro that we’ll definitely stay with Final Cut Pro 7 for some time and see how Premiere Pro (and Final Cut Pro X) develops.
