So I am really trying to figure out if this works as fluidly as it does in FCP and Avid as I would expect in Premiere Pro CS 5.5.

    Specs:
Mac Pro Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor with 8 cores, 12 gb of ram
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Graphics card with 512 MB of VRAM
    OSX 10.5.8 (Leopard)
    Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5.5
Aja Kona3 9.0.3 Control Panel (9.0.5 I know is not good for Leopard)
    Adobe Mac 9.0.1 plugins

    The problem:
Video plays fine in an Aja sequence only in the external monitor. On my desktop, the video is a bit jittery in both the source and preview monitors and my keyboard strokes tend to lag. If I switch to the Adobe player in the preferences and use an Adobe sequence, I of course lose my external monitor capabilities but the video in both preview and source monitors are fluid and the key stroke responses are spot on.

Is there a world where the video in all three monitors (Preview, Source, & External) are fluid in motion as a professional editor would expect as they are in Avid and FCP7. If there is not, this will be another set back from the FCPX release and grudgingly increase my expectations for Media Composer 6.

If anyone does in fact have this working in a professional client environment, please share your specs and process how you get this to work.

    Thank You,
    Adam Svatek

Perhaps this video by Walter Biscardi will help: https://www.biscardicreative.com/blog/2011/06/transitioning-3-aja-kona-board-with-adobe-cs-5-5/

Right-click in the Program Monitor window and see what the Playback Resolution is set to – try “FULL” if it is not already. This helps on the PC, not sure about with Mac.

    Kevin,

Thank you so much for the response. That was a very good idea. After setting the monitors to Full Res, I unfortunately still have the same jitteryness as before. Any other ideas?

Thanks Kevin for the response. I have seen Walters demo’s as they are very helpful. He definitely got me started in the right direction. It’s at the stage now that I am encountering this jitteryness in the video on the preview and source monitors along with the lag in keystrokes on the keyboard. Do you have your system working flawless on a mac? Curious to how you have it setup. OSX version, hard drives you are running, although I get the same problem if I am using the internal drives as well, etc..

    Thank you,
    Adam

Maybe you should read this thread – https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/915566

I have experience with different MacPros and AJA Konas and can say that Premiere Pro is still very buggy and laggy with AJA Konas. And from what I’ve read it seems that also Blackmagic’s and Matrox’s cards / output boxes are unstable and buggy. That’s why we decided to stay with Final Cut Pro 7 for a while and see which one (Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro X) gets working external output sooner.

I like Premiere Pro and especially Dynamic Link but for me it seems that there must be something essential broken in Premiere Pros ‘engine’ because it’s one and a half year since CS5 launch and there’s no really well working output solution available. Or correct me if I’m wrong? And people who’ve been working with FCP and AJA Konas know what I mean by really well working solution. Also what the h__l is this thing in Premiere Pro that I’ve to choose ‘different player’ for source monitor?!#

As Tapio noted–the support in PrPro for both Aja and Blackmagic cards is lacking at the moment–my own feeling is that you are wasting effort at this point in time in trying to resolve your issues until Adobe/Aja/BMD issue driver/software updates.

Other than material from my Nikon D7000 (which Adobe is aware of and I hope is fixed SOON) I am getting normal smooth playback with my AJA Kona LHi and the current AJA Adobe software and LHi Driver in all windows with the usual codecs I work with, XDCam, ProRes, etc. That is why I asked what codec you are using. If it is Nikon H264, you will be having problems. All of my windows are smooth including the external HDMI out to my color critical monitor. Maybe this is a Kona 3 problem. What is the experience of others?
