    Many people recommend to ALWAYS apply a NR pass as a first step before any CC or grading with DSLR footage, to help hide the H.264 compression artifacts and make the image more suitable for CC-grading, especially if you are working in a 16-32 bit color space. Has anyone done any extensive testing comparing AE’s remove grain with 3rd party software such as Neat Video?

    I might be wrong but I think one advantage of using AE via Dynamic linking is that you are only rendering once

    I haven’t done extensive testing but can say straight that Neatvideo is superior to remove grain filter. Absolutely one of the best plugins everyone should own. BTW there’s no notable difference whether you apply Neatvideo before/after CC. I generally apply it after so it doesn’t slow down my workflow.
