July 12, 2011 at 12:32 pm in reply to: LOL – Has anyone noticed that Broadcast Safe doesn’t work?Hi Rafael,
I think you’re missing some points. Yes Final Cut Pro X rendering engine is RGB but it’s 32-bit floating point rendering engine so there is more than enough headroom to process all the possible superwhites and superblack YUV colorspace can produce. It’s just your computer display that can’t display those colors. Put the colors are still there and colors are saved to ProRes files.
And BTW Magic Bullet Colorista II, Apple Color, After Effects etc. all work in RGB so there’s nothing wrong in RGB. It’s just how YUV->RGB->YUV conversion is handled and FCPX handles it great. No clipping with super whites or blacks.
It’s same with audio. You can let your audio go over 0dbfs and it sounds distorted in speakers but next filter is still able to use audio data going over 0dbfs because processing inside is 32-bit floating point and there’s lots of headroom.

Yeah doing compound clip does more or less same than cutting material again to timeline but it’s not anymore in original state. You can’t for example access all metadata anymore straight from timeline but instead have to go inside compound clip. Does it matter… Depends how you work.

July 12, 2011 at 9:26 am in reply to: Motion 5 Motion Blur Settings won’t pass through to FCP XNo you’re not missing anything. At the moment FCPX handles Motion files with normal quality when playing realtime and in best quality when rendering. Motion blur is on/off based on settings in Motion file and it’s always 8 samples and 180 shutter angle.

Copy your sfx folder under Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Final Cut Pro Sound Effects/ or if you have huge library you don’t want to copy simply make alias of your current sfx folder and simply copy alias under Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Final Cut Pro Sound Effects/

Only way to get clip back to original state with audio etc. after ‘divorce’ is to select clip in timeline -> press shift-f -> and drag-n-drop clip back from events to replace clip in timeline.

July 11, 2011 at 7:55 pm in reply to: LOL – Has anyone noticed that Broadcast Safe doesn’t work?Yep at the moment it’s not possible because FCPX is using AV Foundation instead of Quicktime and there’s no even official way for 3rd party developers access AV Foundation in Snow Leopard because those are private APIs. Wait till Lion and couple FCPX upgrades. It will come in 2-6 months. I’m 100% sure.

July 11, 2011 at 4:45 pm in reply to: LOL – Has anyone noticed that Broadcast Safe doesn’t work? When proper SDI output becomes available then we are able to see super whites and blacks with broadcast monitors but currently with computer monitor it’s impossible. Of course we should avoid “super colors” anyway in the end but it’s great FCPX gives you that headroom while processing pictures.

July 11, 2011 at 4:32 pm in reply to: LOL – Has anyone noticed that Broadcast Safe doesn’t work?Yeah scopres show you super white (>100 IRE) and super black (<0 IRE) which are not outputted to screen because 100 IRE is mapped to 255,255,255 RGB and 0 IRE is mapped to 0,0,0 RGB but it’s great FCPX can process those “over limit colors” much better than FCP7. Actually FCP7 didn’t even have support to super blacks and only few filters worked correctly with super whites.

Well H.264 is the best quality format for web distribution. It maintains great picture quality with relatively low bitrates. So I’d say always when you’re uploading videos to some sites you should upload those as H.264.
If you want to get even higher quality H.264 you can first export as ProRes from FCPX and then took file to Compressor and manually compress H.264 with higher bitrate than what standard H.264 export from FCPX uses.

No you’re not supposed to upload ProRes files to Youtube. ProRes is mastering/editing format and not suitable for web distribution. You should make high quality H.264 files instead and upload those to Youtube.
Simply from Export Movie change current settings to H.264 and upload that to Youtube. Or you can compress to H.264 and upload to Youtube straight from Share menu by choosing Youtube.
