one more thing to guess at: should i have Compressor make them at 44.1, 48/16, or 48/24?

i’m not able to. i use a Blackmagic Decklink SP card, and the decklink audio choice in the set up does not have any other choices than 48kHz.

i’m probably telling you something you already know, but just put your subject as far from the BG as possible. even though it (the BG) will be black, it can sometimes pick up some stray light if it is too close to the subject. then, put your lights anywhere you want them for the desired sculpting of light on your subject.

i was just logging on to claim that i do believe it is a heat issue, when i saw your post. when i first turn on the computer today, all was fine. so heat is the only thing i can see that might cause this. thanks!

sorry for my extreme ignorance, but what do you mean by “common mode” and when you say “Does the Decklink card playout okay to the tape deck?” do you mean just recording to tape? because just playing off the timeline is what gives me the yucky pix…even though it looks “great” in the viewer and canvas windows. by the way, recording to tape gives me the same yucky pix.

alrighty. just checking to see that i’m not completely abnormal. i guess i should count my blessings that i haven’t made a 720 layer puppy with particle emitters!

thanks for the input : )

thanks. good info. i’ve added the “broadcast filter”, but nothing changed, even after tweaking many of the settings…

embarrassing, but this is why i sign my posts “bonehead”…

as i was re-checking my cables between my Decklink, 1800 and monitor, i found that i had the OUTPUT Y cable (rather than the INPUT!) connected as the sync ref. how surprising that when i switched these, and looped my 1800 to itself, my rolling problem was gone. : ) all this and no black burst generator!

thanks for your patience and good ideas on this.
