proper monitor set up: Decklink SP, UVW-1800
maybe my dealer needs to look at this, but i’m still not getting consistently good results on my monitor. i’m currently monitoring via a composite cable from the 1800 video output to my monitor. i still have a vertical roll on that monitor, and i’ve tried a different monitor and still get the same thing. should i be going to the monitor from one of the Decklink breakout cables? i’ve tried the ones that aren’t in use: SPDIF Mon Out, Genlock In, and SDI Mon Out, but none of them give me any picture at all (obviously).
is anyone else using a similar setup that is working (no vertical rolls)? thanks!

Vertical Roll – sounds like your using a Genlock (black source) and the only thing not connected is the monitor.
If this is the case – ensure all devices are connected to the a sync.
Or all devices are not connected and that the deck is not configured to sync.If you have further problems email – pcsupport@blackmagic-design.com

you are not a bonehead – your dealer is. Your dealer should have sold you a color black generator, which is used to genlock the Decklink card and your Beta 1800. Plug the black gen into the genlock input of the card, and the Ref Video input of the Beta 1800, and your problems will be gone.Bob Zelin

this should work fine, does with my system w/Decklink Extreme.
Attach the B-Y & R-Y cables from DLink to your Betacam SP deck as usual, but take the Y component cable and instead of connecting it to the Y component input, run it instead to the ‘reference’ video input. There are two of these reference video BNCs, one above the other. Now attach the DeckLink Y to the bottom ‘reference’, then attach a separate short bnc cable from the top ‘reference’ bnc back to the Y component input. You have now essentially looped the Decklink Y through the reference input and should be set. -
i have it currently set up as you outlined, which yields the rolling video on my monitor. my guess is that the system i screaming for a black burst generator. i’ll get one on Monday and see if that solves me problem. thanks, though!

embarrassing, but this is why i sign my posts “bonehead”…
as i was re-checking my cables between my Decklink, 1800 and monitor, i found that i had the OUTPUT Y cable (rather than the INPUT!) connected as the sync ref. how surprising that when i switched these, and looped my 1800 to itself, my rolling problem was gone. : ) all this and no black burst generator!
