Well, there are lots of things it could be, one of which is CS6’s cache buffering issue. Below is a link to a thread on the Adobe forums, disappointing that no one from Adobe has officially acknowledged it. If you think this is your problem, I’d strongly suggest using the bug report link, and maybe we’ll get some response.

Aaron, I’m in a similar position, coming over from a mac/fcp. I’ve never built a system before, but thinking of taking the plunge. Can I ask what other components you are thinking of buying, such as power supply, case, cooling system, rack, etc? Also, where are these prices from?
Thanks

Agree David, the learning curve, also known over here as laziness, is a major factor in deciding whether or not to seriously consider PPro. My fingers don’t want to learn another language. And, btw, Dave is right about marketing people dangling shiny objects. When I have to cut on Avid, it’s like taking a trip back in time to 1988. Segment Mode? Overwrite mode? Talk about software needing a major re-think.

Color is worth the effort. It sat unused on my drive for a long time, but after a good training DVD (there are many), I realized just how powerful and easy to use it is.
It’s not for every project though. It’s a tool for workflows which have a definite end point, features, music vids, docs, unlike corp. projects that get revised to death and then revised again a month or three later.

I went with this one:
Edit to one drive, back up to the other, connect via esata, pop sata drives in and out at your leisure, works like a charm.
