November 17, 2016 at 5:19 pm in reply to: Using a 4K -TV- as an InterFace Monitor

    Hello Noah-
Are you saying ALL consumer TVs may have the ghosting/aliasing issues? or _Just_ 4K TVs? The antique 37″ LED HD 1080 consumer TV I am currently using (a low-spec Westinghouse!) is fine for this.

Thank you for your kind reply!

  • Hi Craig
Perhaps I am not using Handbrake correctly (or there is a PRO version I may not be using?) but results were pretty soft. Nothing compared to what I can output via QTPro. These were all vetted on a normal HD screen, not a computer monitor.
You say that handbrake is _X_264? not H? Have the X264 encoder in my Compressor folder, but again, no apparent way to “switch ON” interlacing.

    thanks for your replies.

    cheers

  • Hi Craig-
Quality of files created is pretty abysmal 🙁
Of all the amazing file-types I can generate from QTPro7, I am kind of stunned it can’t pull this off.
H264 DOES support interlaced. How did this slip thru the cracks?

    *sigh*

    thanks tho!

November 27, 2013 at 5:46 pm in reply to: HDV .mov files won’t play on FCP and QuickTime

My solution – as found via APPLE FORUMS:

    Background:
    OS 10.6.8/FCP7.0.3

I was prepping to update to Mtn Lion and was advised to first do a Software Update of current OS.
Mistake! HDVs now invisible (green screen in FCP, QT would not play video portion)
The Update also updated the QT HDV CODEC to one which is, apparently, broken!!
    Solution:
In my case I had a cloned (and non-updated!) OS from which I just grabbed the
LIBRARY>QUICKTIME>AppleHDVCodec and dropped it into the NEW OS (after discarding its version)
    BOOM!
    fixed.
If you have no clone then pull off your original install OS disc.
FWIW My “working” Codec is v2.0.

September 15, 2013 at 10:02 pm in reply to: FCP7 Main Sequence Browser Icon AND timeline – GONE!

    Thx John-
yep – did all the maintenance stuff with no joy. I guess once the sequence icon is deleted off the Browser window you are basically sunk. I went to an older backup and redid what I lost betw current and BU project.
Really, I guess no substitute for religious BUs!

  • Update-
    Still persists
    BUT:
rebooted over to BU OS drive, opened Project there-
    EVERYTHING OK.

So problem “solved” I guess. I will copy the whole BU OS Drive _back_ over the Primary OS Drive (where the problem persists) in hope this will Fix It.
    ?
Curiously, I had just done a Back Up to the BU OS from the Primary not 3 days ago, so these drives and software are virtually identical.

    weird.

Still happy to hear if any thoughts on this issue.

    May 13, 2013 at 10:06 pm in reply to: Please create/add a GOPRO/Cineform FORUM(s)

    Hi Tim – thanks!
    so. been there, eh?
OK. understood. I mean, if its not being used…
Don’t know if renewed interest/sales of HERO3 Blk cameras might justify a re-think?? pretty amazing improvement over previous “not-quite-ready-for-broadcast” HD2s.

As you say, the camera systems seem pretty low maintenance. But there is seemingly NO support (based on my pleadings on the GoProForums) for the advanced versions (ie us non-skateboarders) of Cineform (aka Cineform Premium). Gopro does not even seem to have a USER manual for this $200 piece of software. This is sort of the vital link between getting the Hero CINE-RAW quality footage conformed to broadcast/FCP etc standard files.

bit of a loss for a resource here….

August 5, 2012 at 4:27 am in reply to: how do I check if my BM DeckLink 3D card is working?

    Hi Margus-
“blinking” AJA = no signal – which was what made me wonder about the card.
Now a solid RED = HD signal sensed = all GOOD for the moment!
    relief!
    confusion!
    🙂
