  • how do I check if my BM DeckLink 3D card is working?

Posted by Stu Aull on August 3, 2012 at 11:27 pm

    Hi All
    OSX 10.6.8 – MacPro 12core – 14GB ram – FCP7 – BM Desktop software v 9.5.2- Decklink HD extreme 3D

Suddenly in the middle of an edit, my Grading/FCP Output/3rd monitor (fed by BM card) went blank.
Its an HP Dreamcolor running off the SDI OUT of the DeckLink card via an AJA converter (SDI to HDMI IN for the Dreamcolor). Has run fine for months.

The AJA converter LED is flashing RED saying (presumably) “no signal”. Dreamcolor is defaulting to “no signal” mode (blank) and my video FCP output and even as an extended desktop is now blank.

BM manual offers no assistance 🙁

    In FCP7 I checked
Menu>View>External Video>All Frames (this usually brings everything back on-line)
    Menu>View>External Video>Refresh AV devices
    Menu>View>Video Playback>Blackmagic HD 1080p 23.97 8-bit (my work flo)
    -nada-!

    Reboot: nada
    Reload 9.5.2 : nada

    FWIW I had updated from
    Desktop software v 8.5 to
    Desktop software v 9.5.2
YESTerday – but everything worked fine for several hours.

    ??

you have to trace step by step if you get something out from your video io, then aja box and then dreamcolor. It you look on full loop you just assume that it works but any of the points may fail.

    Have done this margus.
Nothing from the card to the external boxes. I just thought there maybe some BM software, etc that showed the card was active or generating a signal…

    ??

    Was very sudden.
    odd.

You should see BM card in system profiler (device manager) and BM setup in system config (control panel)
should be usable. Usually when BM io goes bad either or both are not seeable / usable.

    Hope this helps.

If either is not coming up or working you have to test with another card.

    Hello Margus- my thanks!
Yes BOTH control panels visible – and have always been so.

    AND –

not sure I am more relieved or worried, since I did _nothing_ to it. Damn.
Ah well …. will see what happens.
    confusion reigns!

again thank you for taking the time to respond!!
    kind regards

Have you looked up what aja box blinking means ?

Maybe this is failing or over heating etc ?

    Hi Margus-
“blinking” AJA = no signal – which was what made me wonder about the card.
Now a solid RED = HD signal sensed = all GOOD for the moment!
    relief!
    confusion!
    🙂
