Prores – but only if you’re mostly Intel. Our last remaining G5 tends to chug a bit when using it. But if you’re mostly Mac Pros then Prores is really a no-brainer.

Latest build of XDCAM Transfer is 2.10.0 – might be worth updating.

[Iain MacKinnon] “OK, so, how do i connect the TV to my Comp? Camera to Mac via firewire and then camera to TV?”
As long as you’re working on an SD DV timeline with a camera that supports a DV input then yep. That’s the cheap option.

It’s because the Final Cut viewer window never shows a true version of your edit. If you really want to see what your edit looks like on a telly, you need to have one connected. Interlace issues in particular are very hard to spot without an external monitor. To do that you’ll need a dedicated capture card like an AJA, or you can bounce a signal through a firewire camera or deck.

The most recent version of XDCAM Transfer is 2.10.0 – I’d try updating that and see if it makes any difference.

[Tomilee Turner] “G5 dual core tower”
Are you sure about this? Final Cut Studio 3 requires an intel machine…
Which version of XDCAM Transfer are you using?

[Richard Rodriguez] “IS THERE A BETTER WAY TO ACCOMPLISH THIS? “
Yes.
Use compressor straight from your XDCAM timeline. Apply the setting that is closest to your running time.
Don’t duplicate the sequence.
Don’t change the sequence to NTSC.
Don’t change the compressor to MPEG4.
Don’t change the field order to lower.
Your burns also shouldn’t be taking an hour. What speed media are you burning?

[Steve Connor] “What camera does 1080P 50?”
The Sony PDW-F800 XDCAM camera does 1080 50p (sortof) Sony call it 1080p, but at 50fps it halves the vertical resolution so you get 1920×540. The codec sees it as 1080p in FCP though.
