October 2, 2009 at 2:18 pmWe’ve cut some 720p 50 material in 6.0.6 – no problems here. FCP7 is required for 50p with the XDCAM PDW-800 BTW…

not XDCam.
Sony’s HDC1500, f950, f23 and f35 do along with a bunch from other manufacturers like Arri’s D21, Thomson’s Viper, Phantoms, NAC and Weiscam
1080 50p (60p also) is delivered as a 4:2:2 signal over dual link or 3G connection.
f23s, f35s and the D21 can also use TOS-Link optical connection to an updated SRW1 deck.gary adcock

The Sony PDW-F800 XDCAM camera does 1080 50p (sortof) Sony call it 1080p, but at 50fps it halves the vertical resolution so you get 1920×540. The codec sees it as 1080p in FCP though.

October 6, 2009 at 3:44 amIt will only do 50p in 720, not 1080.
What you are describing is 1080 psf, which at 50 Hz is 25 psf, which is quite different than true 50p. Most deliveries require psf, and not true p in 1080. True 1080p50 requires dual link or 3G SDI (and other data transfer methods) as Gary mentioned. And yes, most 1080 cameras display 540 lines one field at a time.
