Sorry – I have to agree with those who point out that you DON’T HAVE TO UPGRADE!

We still run G4 workstations with Cinewave in our shop, and every single day they earn their keep. Damn fine machines.

[] “Apparently it douse the US web site says specifically maximum resolution: 1280 by 720 pixels at 24 fps.”

The UK page has exactly the same specification:

    https://www.apple.com/uk/appletv/specs.html

But yet it will play back 25fps files. So I’m guessing that the spec sheet isn’t quite correct.

[zrb123] “Remember you are in the UK I am speaking about the US version.”

Shouldn’t make a difference – as far as I’m aware the playback support for codecs are the same no matter where you bought your appleTV.

[zrb123] “Keep in mind that the 720p video that the Apple TV supports must be 24 fps so you may need to convert the frame rate.”

Actually – although the apple website says nothing about it – 25fps is supported at 720p. I’ve had sucessful 25 frame encodes play back.

Are you also mastering final programmes back to XDCAM HD? If so are you doing it through HD SDI or as a firewire file copy, or over gigabit?

[Steve Connor] “As I understand it, they were very big on the “never been filmed before” due to the length of lens on the helicopter shots, one of the “making of shows” played up this point.”

Actually the BBC Natural History unit are all about the Panasonic cameras – check the press release here:

The vast majority of footage is from the Varicam (edited I believe in FCP) – and boy does it look loverly!

Sounds like you’re recording the wrong audio rate onto the HDD. Is the audio rate at 44.1khz instead of 48khz?
