I agree. It works. There’s gotta be something you are not seeing (an I point)
I do it all the time.

    Good Luck!

  • Anothe option is:

    – Create an SD timeline
    – Drop all your HD footage
    – Change the distort option of one clip to -30%
    – Copy
    – Select All
    – Paste Attributes
    – Render

It takes more words and time to explain than the number of right clicks to do it.

At our studio, we have the new 50PF9UK – 1080P. It is a beautiful plasma monitor.
We feed a digital signal through an HD/SD SDI input board. Everything looks great!
The component inputs are used to monitor a DVD player or any other analog signal.
We don’t even bother with composite.

We are considering buying a second one for a smaller suite. We do not think it will hurt
to have another 50 incher in a secondary system as clients really love it.

The key with these plasmas is the extra HD/SD SDI board. It is kind of expensive though.
The card has been back ordered for a few months. We had to wait about 12 weeks for
it, but once installed WOW! can’t be any happier.

In my opinion it works really well if coming from an SD source.

If downconverting from HD, hmmmm it depends on the HD source,
for the most part is ok.

Yeah, that would be a problem.
Use the RCA outputs for monitor.

We experienced an issue like that when we used the audio output for the first time.
For a long while we only used the video out just like you.

The trick is to go to the Mac’s System Preferences – Sound and adjust all audio outputs
to 64. (adjust the audio level – then move the mouse away from it – then place on the
level marker again- a tip tool type window will pop up and give you the level number)

    Hope this helps…

Plus the reconform issue will be easier. I have not found a nice way to tell a client “lock picture
before we start any color correction because we can’t just change the timeline in FCP and
automatically color correct your change in FT” That is a big issue, unless you guys know a
method I am not aware of.

Some of these crazy clients want to make changes all the way before the last second of mastering to tape.
I think that is the biggest draw back with FT right now.

A stand alone FinalTouch app with automatic updates according to your timeline in FCP would be awesome!
