I just checked on the pricing. Iridas released the HD SpeedGrade version
for 9,999 EUR or $12,812 US at suggested price. By the time all is set and done
    it could cost around $10,000.

    Hope this helps…

I talked to a sales rep yesterday. Irida’s will have the same sale structure as FinalTouch does (did).
SD – HD – 2K. The prices have not been set yet (I believe), but I should know soon. A test drive would not be bad.

If you were to get a 2K feature film job, you’d almost recup the investment. I do not think the learning
curve would be as difficult as going from FCP 3-way to FinalTouch. As many of us would go FT to SG.

    Something to consider…

    Nick,

…and don’t forget you may still need an HD waveform / vectorscope depending on what kind of project it is.
If it goes to TV, I will say you definately need one. If it goes to DVD or another medium you may get away without it, but
    do I recommend it? No.

This doesn’t mean you have to “buy” everything. Unless you are in a small town, you should be able to rent the necessary
equip. by the time you start the color correction, final render, mastering and finishing process. You are probably good
with whatever you have for the offline process. Do more reseacrh and figure out what you need.

    Good Luck!

Back in the day we used Color Finesse to provide a higher level of color grading than FCP three-way color correction.
This was Color Finesse 1.0 and it was bad. Slow, buggy, no output to monitor unless you had Echo Fire(eben with it still buggy), but
still was better than Apple’s color corrector.

It got so painful to work with CF that we started looking for an alternative. Then Color Finesse was announced at NAB 2005
and it took a full year to be released. I remember we waited and waited and waited and kept calling and calling and calling over
moths to Synth Apert office and they kept saying in “two to three weeks” every single time. We got tired of it.

At that point we had heard of FinalTouch, and although we had to purchase graphic cards and extra second display just to run
the tester, we fell in love with it and switch right away. By the time Color Finesse 2 was out we were full on FinalTouch. Speed did
    make a difference.

    – From time to time I read posts about it, and it seems like a plugin for AE than an app to work with FCP.
    – How about Irida’s SpeedGrade? I’d like to look into it as a back up.
    – Another question is… can CF work with Tangent Devices?. I’ve tried the JL Cooper and it is not “there”. CF has a bundle with it.

If anyone tries CF, please let us know.

    Spydrtwo,
    You’re welcome.

    Bob,
I get what you are saying, but what if someone doesn’t have Final Touch or needs to measure levels from a tape,
After Effects, Photoshop or a dozen other reasons? I agree with you, software scopes will get better but I do not
think they will get as precise as a dedicated unit.

I remember Roland from Silicon Color telling me the new version 3 of FT will incorporate the scopes on the second
Apple monitor which will force us again to use it no matter what. Lets see what happens…

  • Why don’t you get a DVI to Video to SDI converter box (or boxes), connect it to
a separate Mac with the Kona and capture it?
Sounds expensive to me; unless there are other solutions.

After weeks of research, we decided to purchase the Leader LV7700. It has the best quality & performance
for your money. The Tektronix is the BEST, but after you add all the extra input cards for SD- SDI, Component and
Audio you are looking at around $17,000.

We have not work on BetaSP component in a long time. Everything has been Digibeta, so the necessity of
component inputs really didn’t matter to us. On the audio side, we get final mixes from audio places that we
sync up before mastering. All the features are great to have, but if you don’t really need them, you can save on
our budget or apply it somewhere else.

I would recommend you to look very closely at your workflow and pinpoint the every day utility of all the features
in your measuring equipment. Many other pro-places like ours use the Leader.
    Hope this helps.

When I was doing research, the conclusion was that it is specifically a JVC’s issue.
All the other manufacturers seem to be ok, but it is precisely the JVC 24P 23.98 HDV
codec where the problem is. All other JVC HDV frame rates seem to be ok.

Even FCP could not work with it until 2 weeks ago when a new patch was released,
but even now there are still issues with it.
