October 21, 2006 at 9:29 pm in reply to: 59.94 frame conflicts for film out -workflow?You may be right I’ll check on it. But why would the dissolves (or any render) do the jagged video
if we are fully rendering and not relying on FCP’s RT feature?
We did change the render to high-precision YUV.I do not really like this HDV codec. There are too many issues; and the fact that all manufacturers
are putting out their own version; and therefore, changing the position of their MPEG frames, it
is just creating massive incompatibility. What they should do is come up with a universal codec
like they did with DV. I much rather not use it (but what can we do – is out there and there is
business for it).Stuart C Ferreyra

October 21, 2006 at 4:13 pm in reply to: 59.94 frame conflicts for film out -workflow?We have a similar issue. Content was shot with the JVC HDV 24P codec wich FCP did not support
until just a couple of weeks (and it still has issues). The client decided to shoot his indie movie
with the JVC to be able to change camera lenses and keep the costs of HD down.Anyway, the only way to ingest the material and keep the progressive feel was to do a component
HD out of the JVC deck through the Kona card for DVCPro HD 720 59.94 coversion. I contacted
JVC, AJA and even Nattress to come up with the workflow. It worked GREAT! The ditor has done a great job, but the issue now is that even though most of the
ilm is 95% cuts, theer are some dissolves and titles which shift the field (I guess) of the 59.94 material
and it becomess jagged until play back gets back to normal picture.I have to do some tests to figure out what we will do. We will be in charge of the CC with FinalTouch
and the mastering. The client will not go back to film, but we do need to figure this out. It has become
a problem…Any ideas?

Thanks Tony,
I tried what you said, and I was half successful. I was able to change the Io black setting through the
control panel (latest firmaware and driver), but the composite output of the Io did not reflect the black
level change from 7.5 to 0 IRE (Io composite out is connected to a waveform / vectorscope monitor).I had slug from FCP and the slug was still 7.5 IRE. Shouldn’t the slug switch to 0 automatically?
My only point of reference is the Aurora Igniter we used to have. When the black level settings were changed
it would automatically adjust the outputs.Any ideas or comments?

it sounds like a lot of time just to try to get it right.
if you do have the time great! Otherwise, I would get a good
3D guy and get it to design it really quick for less than $100 bucks.
A piece of cake for them.Just my opinion…

if you are thinking about the splashes of paint you see on channels like Fuse and MTV, someone told me
that Corel Painter IX can “remember” your splashes and or brush strokes and save them as a QT movie.https://www.corel.com/painterix/home/index.html
I have not tried it, neither know if it really works; but give it a try and let us know.

Thanks for the advice. Both very helpful.
We integrated all of your ideas and after quick fine tunning we have been able to
dramatically reduce the moire effect. They look great!

Through tons of tests we have made, we have found out that the best solution is
to create reference movies and not to export to Compressor via FCP.Create a reference movie in a complete different drive/partition send that to
Compressor. Select the destination (in Compressor) to another drive/partition.
So preety much you a drive/partition for capture, another for the reference movie,
and another one for the final encoded file. Total of 3.Since we started doing this a few years ago, we have not had one single issue
with FCP and/or Compressor.Stuart C Ferreyra

We are running:
10.4.1
QT 7 Pro
FCP 4.5It works as smooth as a baby’s butt.
But!!!! We did do a complete clean install.
The only way all upgrades should get done!Stu

The main thing to do is:
1) Clean Install of OS
and
2) Clean Install of FCP / Creative Suite.I bet the ones with the problems did not do that.
Even though it takes time. It saves a lot of headaches.Stu
