    Maybe I’m doing it wrong, but I would like to do a three point edit.

    IE: Set and In and out point on my Timeline and the set and out point on my Viewer and do an Overwirte edit.

    Final Cut should be able to figure out the in point and do the edit, but what seems to happen is it will lay the clip in from the beginning.

    Thanks;

    That’s not the way my FCP works. If there’s I/O in the timeline and an Out in the viewer, it will backtime matching the Out points. Are you sure it’s not using the whole clip because that’s what the backtime amounts to? If you have both In and Out points set in the Viewer, then it will use the In point and ignore the viewer Out point. Make sure you don’t have an In set at the start of the clip.

    All the best,

    Tom

    sometimes it’s hard to see an in at the begining of a clip in the viewer.

    I agree. It works. There’s gotta be something you are not seeing (an I point)
    I do it all the time.

    Good Luck!

    Ok after doing a bit more “testing”, I came to realize that it will work correctly if I do an overwrite or insert edit, but if I do an insert or overwrite with transition, it takes the beginning of the clip as the inpoint.

    Any ideas, is this normal?

    I’ve tried 3 different systems and 2 different editors same results.

    Thanks;
