I tried rendering using lagarith – the only file type it seemed to let me see it was the avi container – and in there it let me select the lagarith – but again only a max width of 1920. I got the codec from the https://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html

I presume this is a limitation of that implemtation of lagarith – would you have any suggestions where else I could get a ‘safe’ appropriate codec?

    Thanks

    John,

Thank you for the clear answer.

Is it possible to synchronise the camera recording to the projector playback rate? Would anybody have any suggestions on where to even start researhing this topic?

    Thank you.

    Thomas,

Thanks for the info – I will look into setting the camera appropriately, but will also maybe ask on the Vegas forum if there are any specific render settings I should be using in conjunction with this.

Wow – I had never even thought of that. I assumed that if the resolution had a max then this applied to the rendering as well…

Do I understand you correctly by saying although the maximum resolution that Vegas can process is 4096, if I render to 6400 x 600 it will upscale each pixel by a factor of 1.5625? If this is the case I presume it woul dbe like zooming in on an image – at some stage perceived/visible quality will start to take a hit…

    John,

Thanks for the info – I had been looking around to see if there were limits on resolution in Vegas but I could not find any.

I have had some success driving multiple outputs with Qlab and also GrandVJ. GrandVJ does edge blending and can drive multiple video outputs. The question will be whether the machine will be capable of playing such a large image and whether the machine will be able to edge blend 8 times across the output – in any case at the moment I am only experimenting, I have the summer to figure out if it is possible…

    Mike,

I suspect that if you had a dime for every time you post this link you would be very, very rich by now…

May 23, 2011 at 11:46 am in reply to: BCC vegas – motion tracker

    Guillaume,

You are correct – to track-motion you have to start at the start of the timeline – in Vegas you cannot start motion-tracking at any point in the clip – you must start from the beginning. I would love to be proven wrong on this – but so far, I believe this is a ‘BCC-in-Vegas’ issue.

I have just completed a big project which required a lot of motion tracking, and the only workable solution I came up with was to split the events at the point I wanted motion tracking to start, create a new project containing just the bit of the event I needed to track, and then when tracked, nest the small project back into the main timeline.

    Hope this helps.

Just to second the blufftitler comment – it produces really high quality output. Docs are a little scarce, but the forum is very active and you get good support. Don’t let the price put you off – for €49 you really do get very high quality output and very controllable properties….

May 16, 2011 at 7:57 pm in reply to: Extruded Text unstable in Sony Vegas 10

    Peter,

I have had this issue too. Using 10c and latest BCC 7 available, I have had exactly the same issue as described above – rendered output is missing extruded text. The only solution is to close Vegas, reopen it and the project, and render immediately. In every case, this issue has arisen when I have been scrubbing on the timeline – opening the project and rendering immediately fixes the issue.

I am using XP Pro, SP3 and the latest drivers for my nvidia card.

I have not tried it on 10d yet – 10d is way, way slower with BCC7 than 10c, and so I went back to 10c until I have time to make proper tests.

May 14, 2011 at 3:59 pm in reply to: Sony Vegas Move Studio HD 10 on 64bit OS

Vega Movie Studio is not 64 bits, so even if running it on a 64 bit machine with all that RAM it will still only us the 2Gb…

I used to be given .wmv files to edit on movie studio, and even files of 2-3Gbs caused issues. Vegas does not like wmv files as it is quite compressed, and previewing is always choppy (it was for me in any case..) I would trying out converting the file into something something like mpeg2 if you are on SD. I don’t work in HD (yet) so I cannot suggest what format to use for HD – as you seem to be working in a HD format – but transcoding them into a less compressed format should give you a better previewing experience…
