BCC vegas – motion tracker
Posted by Guillaume Jeffrey on May 19, 2011 at 1:20 amI have finished a project, and after reviewing my client ask if I can blur a face at the end.
I use BCC witness protector but I notice that the starting (and ending) frame for the motion tracker can’t more than 30000. Is there a way to increase this value? Or do I have to use a nested project, but times consuming for me as the editing is finished?John Rofrano replied 14 years, 12 months ago 3 Members · 7 Replies -

30,000 frames is over 16 minutes at 30fps. Do you have a continuous scene that you need to blur for over 16 minutes? Wow. You said, “at the end”. How long is the “end”? lol 😉
Anyway the solution is simple. Split your event after 16 minutes and track the next event for another 16 minutes. Keep splitting until the entire scene is tracked.

No, I only need to blur from 41min to 41min28s. It’s over the 30,000 frames for the start of the tracking point as it seems that BCC always want to track from the beginning of the project even though the fx is applied to a single event.

You are correct – to track-motion you have to start at the start of the timeline – in Vegas you cannot start motion-tracking at any point in the clip – you must start from the beginning. I would love to be proven wrong on this – but so far, I believe this is a ‘BCC-in-Vegas’ issue.
I have just completed a big project which required a lot of motion tracking, and the only workable solution I came up with was to split the events at the point I wanted motion tracking to start, create a new project containing just the bit of the event I needed to track, and then when tracked, nest the small project back into the main timeline.
Hope this helps.

May 24, 2011 at 1:20 amThanks Stewart. I was afraid that nesting is the only solution though not fast and easy to use just for motion tracking.
By the way I tried Red and it’s possible to use motion tracking only on the event (expensive though…) -

I’m not seeing the problem here. I just used BCC Witness Protection on and event that was 30 minutes into a show (which is well beyond 30,000 frames) and it tracked and worked perfectly. I’m pretty sure it’s relative to the event that you place it on.

Your answer make me think of a problem in my workflow. I tried on the same event and I found out why it doesn’t work before.
I don’t want the tracking to start at the beginning of the event but 4s after the beginning of the event (@ 41min). At that time this is the 61500th frame (Pal here), that’s why I tried to set up a start tracking frame of 61500. Actually I forget to do the basic math, so when I set up the start tracking frame at 100 (4s), everything works fine.
Maybe, Borisfx can update the help file as I haven’t found any information regarding the start tracking frame refers only to the event relative frame. -

Actually this is understood to be the default Vegas behavior. Whenever you drop any FX on an event the keyframes, etc. are always relative to the event.
