    Peter,

That was perfect – thank you. I never saw that option – I assumed all the ‘saving’ options were for templates….

On a related note – I notice in the list of effects present in the different host versions of BCC that most of the particle-based effects are not available in the Vegas version – do you plan to release them, or is this a limitation of Vegas?

    Many thanks again.

Yes, it is a different one, and from what I have been reading here and elsewhere it certainly seems like shutter-sync issues.

I was not on the cameras that night – I was manning qlab for the projectors – and there was no flicker on the screens – I would have noticed flicker(I hope!!)

I will need to start looking at what needs to be done here, as we will be using multiple projectors more and more.

Thanks all for the very useful input – very much appreciated.

    Peter,

Excellent start – I’ll have a go and let you know.

Had a similar situation myself a couple of weeks ago.. The problem with cropping the 16:9 to suit the 4:3 is you loose a load of footage on the outer part of the video.

The only thing I could do in the end was deliver the project as a widescreen PAL – so you ended up with letterboxing, and in the pan/crop output-aspect-matched the 4:3 – so it did zoom in a bit – but it looked ok (or so I was told!!).

    Max,

Please do post back and let us know the outcome – I for one would be very interested to know how you got on.. I am at the very early stages of pre-planning something similar (but not as adventurous) and I would really love to hear about progress (and the final outcome if appropriate…)

    Thank you.

    Tom,

Does this mean that all your equipment had no earth connection, or was it earthed at one end only? I spoke to the electrician and he raised the question of using unearthed equipment…

    Thanks,

Have you considered something like grand-VJ – it can do live insertion of effects – I am sure they have something like the effect you are looking for in their library…

    Tom,

Very interesting – I’ll talk to the electricians about this.. When you say you removed the earth from the supply feed where exactly do you mean? I assume the mains side is still earthed?

    Thanks,

June 13, 2011 at 1:07 pm in reply to: quick question – rendering to PAL

    David,

I had a similar issue recently. Vegas does an incredible job of handling all the necessary conversions automatically. Unless you have very specific reasons to (and there rarely are) leave all the options alone – let Vegas figure it out. I recently had a project where NTSC, PAL, wide-screen and standard 4:3 were mixed. Once I selected the widescreen template (as you are suggesting) I let Vegas handle all the conversions – and it did it perfectly.

You may need to do some cropping – go into the ‘pan/crop’ on the event and select ‘match output aspect’ – then make any edits as appropriate.

There are a couple of posts about this recently on the Vegas pro forum on the COW, and it might be worth a read as well.

    Hope this helps…

June 10, 2011 at 9:24 am in reply to: Mixing PAL, NTSC, 4:3 and 16:9

Having worked through things a bit more I had some questions about DVDA.

One the mpeg and ac3 have been rendered, do I need to set the aspect ratio in DVDA from its default of 4:3 to 16:9? In other words, do these preferences override the settings taken from the source footage?

I created a small test mpg2 by rendering a region in VP (VBR, max 9, min .192, average 6)but when I try to prepare in DVDA it tells that the bit rate is too low – even though media info reports it as having an average of approx 6.1 mbps…

    Thank you for any suggestions.
