Sync issues with Sorensen are usually related to Quicktime/Avid/Sorensen incompatibilities. Check with sorensen to see what version of quicktime you should be using. If I remember correctly- there’s one release version that Sorensen prefers you to use with avid. Try exporting an uncompressed AVI out of Avid- and using that as the source in Sorensen.

It’s only on the SD monitor. HD out through the HDMI connector looks fine. The edit window on the mac looks fine. It’s much more than a few lines. Its “a couple of inches” of the video on my 20 inch monitor. Again…. sort of reminiscent of a tracking error on a 3/4 inch tape and it’s in the video part, not in the black of the letterbox.

That worked. As a long time Avid editor- I sometimes feel helpless when I run into these kind of problems on FCP. Thanks for your reply, and thanks to creative cow for this forum.

I don’t want to go to live type- I’m just laying out phone numbers, disclaimers, etc for a commercial. I’m using boris 3d text now- I was just using the “text”. Both from the drop down menu in the viewer. Right now, I type the text into boris, edit it in without seeing it over the video. Go to the motion tab,,,, move things around a little- still very clunky, then go back to Boris if I need to adjust, back to the motion tab to bump it up, down left right. I wish I could see the text over the image while I’m typing it.

I’m sure Zane is correct- but I do it all the time. The biggest problem I have is with “green” drives that spin down when they’re not in use.

Slightly off topic, but I thought I’d throw this in. I’ve had several external drives go bad. But, If I used a different interface connection (USB vs SATA vs Firewire) sometimes it would work. Other times, I removed the drive from the enclosure and pop it in a new enclosure and it works. So I’ve learned not to panic too quickly, but a little scare every now and then sure makes the backups more frequent.

I found it. It was Control S (group clip enable?)- which of course is “Save” on my AVID PC- and I was hitting after any complex moves or effects out of habit. All is good now.
