February 9, 2016 at 3:32 am in reply to: Vegas Pro 13 Visual C++ runtime error?

I had been dealing with this issue since I reinstalled my machine just before Xmas.

What I had done is install the last free Cineform codec that is available from the cineform web site. I do have a Studio Premium license of Cineform. The reason I did this was the activation part of the cineform web site was not functioning. It returned a web based error once I entered all my details. So I forged on to attempt to fix this.

Well I never fixed it. I tried the Vegas preference suggested by Mark but no luck. I tried recreating the avi cineform files that appeared to be causing the problem inside Vegas but no luck.

What did fix it was the web site activation is working again. I got a new code for Studio Premium for the hardware change and all is fine again.

Sorry its not a fix but it might at least give some insight. Why the Free version should have issues and the Premium not ?

    Steve

Thanks Steve. I think I’m probably over thinking the whole situation and I should take your approach which is what I had intended to do.

    Cheers,

Sorry Matt. My simple answer was misleading regarding the Vegas versions. No I have not noticed this problem in any other versions of Vegas meaning I didn’t notice if the effect was working correctly or incorrectly. For all I know is that it’s the same in my previous version.

    Thanks for the response Matt,

    |What is your previous non-stepping comparison to? Vegas 11? 10? Earlier?

No comparison. Just started to notice it.

I’ve doubled checked the keyframes and all is good. There’s just 2 keyframes – the start and the end.

In Vegas 10, my last version, I had CUDA available but I don’t in Vegas 12 which is fine, so CUDA is not the issue. Which I understand you meaning with regards to the GPU ?

I could reload Vegas 10 and test it in that. Maybe one day.

Gaussian Blur is doing the job for me now. But it’s not as pretty !

You need to open up the Surround Panner and down the bottom of the window is Center Level. Set this to -Inf.

    Hi Tyson,

Thanks for the reply but I’m not sure what you are replying to ???

The problem I have is I can easily load a sequence of images. But the issues is that when I go to re-open the .veg file it can’t see the image sequence even though they are still in the original location.

  • Sorry I’m not one for using the exact names for controls due to using such a large range of software. My poor brain would overload.

OK. I’m presuming you are using Vegas Pro 9 or higher. So you put your video into a video track. Click on the icon “Event Effects” at the right edge of the clip. Choose the Sony Levels plugin, hit OK to accept it. Now the Level screen should come up. Down the bottom left of the plugin screen should be an “Animate” button. When you click on this you are given a time line where you can “animate” level adjustments.

But this will just to do levels adjusts you understand to generate the brightness flare out effect.

I think I’ve used correct terminology this time. Sorry about that.

  • Hi Raymond,

It’s a great effect. It’s origin I believe is from when shooting on film and the speed of the film speeds up to the correct frame rate essentially overexposing and speeding it up. Spaghetti Westerns filmakers used handcranked cameras to get a similar outcome.

I haven’t tried it but this comes to mind. I would suggest you could try using the velocity curve to speed up the video along with a animated levels control and also some glow effect which can also add the effect of too much light getting into the gate area of a film camera.

    Have fun !

October 24, 2011 at 9:08 pm in reply to: MPEG2 rendering – colour levels ?

    Thanks John,

I did do a couple of tests to see if the MPEG had any info above 235 and below 16, which it didn’t. But I also noticed that the colour was the same as the AVI I put through the codec. Which has now shown me with the help of your answer that I was just chopping off the bottom and top end.

ANOTHER QUESTION: The same material will be going to Bluray but in MP4 format. Do I need to do the same levels compression ?

    Cheers,

    Steve R.
