You can select view>new view, and switch that camera to a custom view. You can do this a number of times, creating other custom views, a side view, a top view and so on.

I’ve been able to make the shine (not shine 1 or 2) aim upwards by moving the source point down and out of the frame at (360,640). However, that means the effect is radiating from a point outside the frame. If you want that, great.

Keep in mind that Shine is a “flat” 2D effect: it only radiates outwards in all directions from its source point. It just sees flat video and radiates outward –it can’t see the third dimension. If you want the rays to start from the center of the floor plane and shoot up perpendicular to that plane, Shine can’t do that.

You might want to look into Lux, a product by Trapcode.

The most effective way to do this effect is with a real 3D app such as Max, Maya, Lightwave or Cinema4D. The effect is called “volumetric lighting”. At any rate, check out Lux.

    Hope that helps,

Can you send your project to me at ads (at) reidroberts (dot) com?
(I wrote the address that way to avoid spambots)

Don’t send footage, just the AEP file.

Actually, experience with AE is not required at your stage — imagination is. And a little experience watching sports television.

    – You need to change the screen from footage A to footage B.
    – You can have something travel across the screen, say, a big diamond, to cover a transition.
    – You can have a diamond-shaped hole enlarge, revealing image B.
    – As you suggested, you can have a bunch of diamonds crossing the screen (up, down or across), eventually filling the screen and revealing footage B. Particle playground should do this, using a diamond image.
    – You can also make the screen bloom out to white like a flash, covering a transition.

Experiment by using a moving layer as a track matte to reveal the layer below. Search the help for “track matte”. Once you get that down, it’s then your task to pick the right image to use as a track matte.

    Hope that helps,

Then you need to make a composition which includes one mushroom and an alpha matte layer (search the help). The alpha matte layer might be a solid that takes up the bottom half of the comp. To reveal the mushroom, animate its Y position so it is first hidden by the matte, then move the mushroom upward so it is visible.

You can then drop that composition into the main composition and shrink it down to size. Duplicate it many times, and move it into various positions in the scene.

To get a shine pointing up in the frame, your source point should be low in the frame.

Is your boost light turned up?

Do you have a light source casting a glow in the center, before you apply shine? If you want shine in the middle of the image, your image should be brighter in the middle … if you’re basing your shine on “brightness”.

    Let us know.

It comes with Quicktime, and can be found in the Output Module settings under Quicktime.

No, it doesn’t work with a 10-bit 4:2:2 codec — it’s one or the other. You have to choose a codec in which to render your movie. You choose Animation or a 10-bit 4:2:2 codec.

    Yep!

Tell the editor first. Some rarely use luma mattes. 🙂

Try animating the text layer’s “scale” property from the timeline or comp window. You’ll need to click the little chain link next to the property to unlink the X and Y scale.

For more info, check the manual.

Not all codecs support an alpha channel. For these codecs, you should create two 10-bpc (bits per channel) output modules: for an RGB video, and an alpha video. Then you bring both rendered videos into your editing app and use the alpha movie as a luma matte for the RGB movie.

If you want 16-bpc quality and an alpha channel, check out Microcosm.

Otherwise, render to Animation — it’s an RGBA codec, but only 8bpc.

    Does that help?
