Don’t compare AE to an editing app. Unlike editing apps, AE has to render every frame, whether that frame has been altered or not. Rendering takes time.

AE is designed to work with just about any format, any size. But the price you pay is in rendering time.

    1. Use rotation, not orientation.

    2. It’s because your camera is like a real camera, not an orthographic camera. When something not dead center of screen is on edge to camera, it’s not exactly at 270 degrees to a global datum or origin. Create a top view to see what I mean.

And, in case you didn’t know, never work in AE 3D without creating a camera. Don’t use AE’s built-in camera — it may mess you up later.

  • It sounds as if you don’t have the required codec. Maybe the file was created in QT 7, using the new codec contained in that release?

You could also post in the COW Quicktime forum.

Hmm … Vector Paint doesn’t interpolate strokes. Your friend might have been drawing masks with the render>stroke effect applied … because masks interpolate.

I haven’t tried Gridiron yet, but searching the COW on “gridiron” should bear fruit.

Have you also tried using multiple instances of AE to render a still sequence on a dual-proc box? If you haven’t, look for the “How to run two AE apps at the same time etc.” thread below.

It’s just that as you close in on a dot, it becomes a circle, and it’s harder to find a small point to track. If you’re far away, a dot is fine.

It’s easier for trackers to find sharp points on corners. Squares and X’s should be fine as well.

I’ve found that AE doesn’t like importing Sorenson. Try Animation, Photo-JPEG or a TGA sequence.

    Some prefer chevrons ( < > V L ) for the sharp corners.

[Chris Smith] “I’d like to say the easiest solution is probably to track the outside corners of the picture frame itself. No markers to add or digitaly remove.”

I agree. The sharp corners should also be easier to track than dots. In case you get closer at some point, dots can become difficult to track, but sharp corners are still sharp. Ad infinitum, to a degree.

The Windows Media Codec (WM9?) is surprisingly nice and playable, but if I recall, you can only render it from AE on Windows. Probably AE 6.5.

And test it on the playback PC. Test early, test often.
