GridIron X-Factor
Has anyone had any success stealing processor power from another computer using X-Factor? (It’s Included with AE 6.5)
I am entering into a difficult project that will need some extra speed so I plan to borrow from the dual core computer upstairs through the network. Any tips or success stories before I dive in? Thanks!

I haven’t tried Gridiron yet, but searching the COW on “gridiron” should bear fruit.
Have you also tried using multiple instances of AE to render a still sequence on a dual-proc box? If you haven’t, look for the “How to run two AE apps at the same time etc.” thread below.

Yes i have run the Grid-Iron X-Factor software before.
It is fairly good, but the demo version is limited to 4 computers. The real version is quite pricey if I remember correctly.I cannot remember if it speeds up rendering…
but it does speed up previews…
When you do a Ram Preview in AE and the little green bars begin to fill up from the left of your work area, the other computers begin to fill up from the other end and in the middle etc until the work area is rendered, then it plays normally.It seems pretty useful, but 4 computers is a but limited.

To be honest, Although I liked the faster previews by sharing 2 other machines on a gigabit hub, I found Gridiron to be too problematic for daily use, and just use the good old fashioned (but extremely powerful) multiple machine render. I found Gridiron did speed up rendering, because AE does not have to re-render the “green areas” that it’s created a preview for
