To draw a line around the sailboat, Or start masking,
you need to open the “event pan/crop” window (center
box at the end of each video clip) and at the bottom
tick “mask” and select the “anchor creation tool” to start
clicking around the sailboat to create your mask.

With Vegas closed. Right click on the saved project file
and select “open with” and choose Sony Vegas..lets see if that helps.

Added to what Chris said: (example) Sailboat on top timeline….
the shot you want it in on the timeline below it.
Then use the mask tool to draw an outline around the sailboat, and
immediately you will see it composited on the bottom layer,
from there now you do some more tweaking and feathering and
then you can even keyframe the sailboat movements.

Just simply “auto hide” your task bar (right click on it,
click properties and tick auto hide) you can now
retrieve the hidden vegas window when the task bar drops
out of view….when done you can set it back.

Sorry guys,
Wax cannot work in sony vegas 8, its programming would
have to be updated. Wax would have been a really versatile
filter for Vegas, if its developers had invested in its
development.
