Suppose so. I wonder how long the Ki Pro mini would run for with a standard say IDX E10 95wh battery, and whether overheating would be a problem?
I must say I definitely do prefer the Ki Pro as a unit, but this start up time would be an issue, as would the still slightly unclear situation with the Varicam. Still not sure if I could get 25P with audio from it. Even if it would not play natively, if the flags are recorded would it then go into an NLE OK? With FCP I understand that the software frame rate converter only works with DVCPro material?

True, but about 10x as long as the Nanoflash!
If you’re working with quick/unpredictable subjects you can either leave it powered up (using lots of power) or potentially miss a lot of action.

Woah! Just seen someone mention that the Ki Pro takes 40 seonds to boot up!!!
That’s the end of it as far as I’m concerned.

In the UK a company called ProAV lists the Hyperdeck Shuttle as in stock.
It’s so cheap and looks good but it depends on what you’re after as for example it’s very short on connectors – no analog audio or remote for instance.
As for the uncompressed only, yes that could be a bit of an issue, but I’d say only if you’re in a real hurry to post, as it’s simple enough to transcode to ProRes of whatever flavour overnight. You can then either keep the uncompressed as archive or just go ProRes HQ entirely and bin the original.

August 12, 2011 at 11:18 am in reply to: nanoflash or aja mini kipro for panasonic varicam model H ?So is there a definitive answer as to whether the 60hz tape Varicam can send a signal to the Ki Pro Mini and record a 25P clip with auido?
CHeers,

So they support pulldown removal, I saw that, but what does that then leave you with?
Can I just press play on the tape and it’ll go through the card and onto a drive all ready to ingest into Final Cut or whatever, with varispeed and sync speed all correctly captured?
Cheers,

As far as I know the JVC HM700 is not a “pixel shifted SD” camera. From the specs I’ve seen it’s got native full raster 1280×720 chips (ie 1 million pixels). The then use shifting to make a 1920×1080 image just as the Varicam 2700 does.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Exactly what I did, got rid of the 700 and bought a Varicam. The best deal I was offered on my 5 month old PDW700 vs a new 800 was about £12000 against £25000 cost of an 800! This means I’d be losing over £1000 a month!
Bye bye Sony.

Problem in the wildlife business is that you can’t rent a camera and know the animal will turn up on that day! You have to have it with you all the time to catch the action and make the best of the weather.
