  • nanoflash or aja mini kipro for panasonic varicam model H ?

Posted by Fabrizio Catanzano on January 25, 2011 at 12:37 pm

    hi guys,

i got a tape based panasonic varicam last model H.

i want to digitize my camera.

at aja told me that kipro captures 24 or 30 from 720p60.

can nanoflash captures 25 from varicam ?

i see that nano got so many files option instead the kipro makes only prores files.

but i also see that someone of u here is going to sell the nano to buy the kipro, why ?

    regards,
    fabrizio.

Nanaflash can capture 25P (but only audio via the unbalanced input) from the tape-based Varicam. Ki Pro Mini can’t, but I’m hoping this will change.

Yes Fabrizio, I have a Varicam-H. I was referring to the 60Hz tape camera.

The KiPro Mini is not yet shipping so you cannot say what it does or does not do.

I have captured 25p with embedded audio using the 720p 60 VFR setting on the shipping version of the KiPro without issue, and I would assume it would follow the same protocols so it should be the same on the mini when it ships.

[fabrizio catanzano] “at aja told me that i can capture only 24 or 30 from 720p60 … i’m really confused guys …”

Aja’s desktop products have always supported varicam captures as VFR, In the recorder the “VFR” setting is to capture the default available SMPTE frame rates when embedded within the 720 or 1080 video streams. ( ie: 23.98,24, 25 and 29.97) (30.0 FPS is not supported in the KiPro)

I am sorry if people on this side of the planet forget about PAL sometimes.

To Be Correct this is from the 1.1 release docs ( KiPro is on version 2.x)

    720p VFR recording support added for 720p24 (23.98), 720p25 and 720p30 (29.97).
“VFR” has been added as a selection for the 1.1 Record Type menu parameter in addition to “Normal” and
    “PsF”

    hi guys,
i heard about the new atomos samurai, looks great !!
all in 1, monitor, recorder, just using cheap 2.5″ hdd or ssd.
but i got just 1 issue with my varicam he model
    it’s the hd-sdi audio output.
i connected the camera to an aja kona he and to a convergent design xdr and no audio signal has been detected ….
i know that audio is embedded from hd-sdi output and i’ve called panasonic support here in italy and they confirmed that.
i should capture audio too from hd-sdi monitor out or hd-sdi ee output … am i wrong ?
maybe my varicam got a problem with the embedded audio ?
i didn’t find instructions in the manual and in the camera menu about audio embedded.
i need ur help before to buy the atomos samurai !!

So is there a definitive answer as to whether the 60hz tape Varicam can send a signal to the Ki Pro Mini and record a 25P clip with auido?

Panasonic is selling a much discounted AG-HMR10 AVCCAM Memory Card Portable Recorder that accepts the SDI HD signal (but no SD SDI however) and guess what, you have to use the mini stereo input of the device to get audio (from the camera earphone output).

The Nano however ACCEPTS the freaking audio from the SDI HD signal !
