If you are using Photoshop to do the resize, use a 0.9 PAR at 720X480. Otherwise, use a square size of 720X534.

Somewhat. But if you want to pan and scan it comes in handy. Otherwise, just export out a SD frame size from the HD project and use that in the SD project. But that would be time consuming as well.

There really isn’t a need, is there? Just import into Premiere Pro, and set the Motion effect’s Scale to the right size. Or set your project to automatically scale images to the frame size.

Encore is full featured and Premiere Pro just handles the basics of DVD creation. I would still use Encore unless you only needed simple menus.

The “right” way to do this is to buy the MainConcept plugin so you can edit MPEG natively and export it properly.

I always edit as though I don’t need to worry about the safty margin. Then nest that sequence and crop it. Or scale it down.

I use Quicktime Pro to do the conversion, but no, there is no faster way that I know of.
