The one thing I might have added is that you can change any of the segments to another camera view if you change your mind, as well as trimming to get what you want.

Once the conforming is done, you should be OK. I highly recommend that you create 20 minute projects. Not 900 minute projects. You will be a lot happier in the long run. Once you get you sequences ready, combining all of the projects can be done later for a last effeort. But it is like trying to get all of the snow from the driveway on your shovel all at one time. It is too heavy. One shovelfull at a time makes more sense.

The Workarea bar is not synonymous with the In and Out points you might set. Read up on workarea in the help files and you’ll get the idea.

HDV on a PC is different than HDV on a Mac.
If you are getting Quickime files from someone, then they may be encoding with a Mac only codec. Quicktime can use many different codecs. You would be better off capturing the HDV into the PC yourself.

So download a trial version. This is a perfect example of why they allow a trial version in the first place.

You are talking about a 3 or 4 point edit, and it is commonly used. But you are not going to get the same fx unless you plan ahead. Copy the item to be replaced and paste it out of the way on a separate track or at the end of the sequence. Replace the video in a 3 or 4 point edit, then copy the copy so you can paste it’s attributes on the new clip.

Just to add a couterpoint to this discussion….
I am a proponent of using each application in the Production Studio for what it does best. Audition for Audio, Encore for DVDs, After Effects for special effects and motion titles, and Premiere Pro to put all the pieces together to feed Encore.
So if After Effects does timewarp or time remapping, which is really a special effect, then I say so be it. Use the right tool for each job rather than try to make each tool overlap.
Having said that, I believe that the memory management issues should be resolved so that all four apps can be open at the same time and transfer between them all should be seamless. And that the problem with Dynamic link between AE and PPro be fixed so that renders are only needed for the current comp.
If we coerce Adobe into working on the most important things, like memory problems, asset management, more compatibility with seamless changes from one app to another, I believe we would be better off.
Just my opinion.

Hey! You asked. I figured if you did the ones I feel guilty about not doing, then I could relax and just let you do all the work! 😉
There was a reason I asked you how you do these podcasts, remember? I figure since we went shopping and got you a new preamp, you would want to practice with it. Anyway, you said you would send me the AE file you use as a starter.
So, yes, I figure I’ll start with the split screen stuff since so many people have trouble with it.
I was hoping to wait until I got the new PC with the wireless so I could do it in a quiter setting. I haven’t heard from him yet.
