You would probably be better off bringing the stills into After Effects as a numbered JPEG sequence and then working with the Keyer there. With After Effects Pro, you can use Keylight which is a very good keyer.

I had to look. I have been too busy with HDV sizes lately.
720X480 is fine, but so is 720X534 which would be more accurate, since PI does not do 0.9 PAR. (I don’t think it does anyway)

The compression happens between the lens and the tape. Too late for uncompressed DV.
What you may be thinking is that the video is uncompressed on the tape. It is compressed at 5:1 – so as I said. Too late by the time it is on tape.
A Mac captures DV from a camera the same way a PC does, but names if differently and puts a slightly different wrapper on the file. But the data is a file transfer, so the data is the same on Mac as on PC, from Quicktime MOV to Windows DV – all the same.
If you want better codecs to work with, you should upgrade your system to Windows XP and get the latest version of Premiere Pro 1.5 – then you will have a better codec (MainConcept) than before. There is a learning curve, but it will be a significant improvement. And the MPEG export is much better in Premiere Pro than in 6.5 as well.

I will generally use “Render and Replace” which turns the audio into a WAV file. Then “Edit Original” will work if you have Windows set up to use Audition by default for WAV files.

Well, I have never had problems with numbered stills being brought in as a clip. Lots of individual stills? That’s different.
But numbered stills have always behaved themselves for me. I use that method to get Particle Illusion projects into Premiere Pro.

Via CD I would probably encode at 1280X720 – at around 5Mbps max, and Deinterlace is one of the pre-encoding tasks in the Adobe Media Encoder.
